The Asian Passage habitat includes palms and ficus trees mixed with tall bamboo and ginger to simulate a tropical rainforest for species such as Bornean sun bears, lion-tailed macaques, binturongs, silver-leaf langurs, fruit doves, whinoceros hornbills, and porcupines.
Sun bears are the smallest bears in the world. They are named after the golden crescents on their chests. Sun bears are extremely agile and often display their playful behavior. They are an endangered species due to habitat loss from farming and logging and poaching.

outback camels
This habitat is home to wallabies, wombatts, camels, tree kangaroos, and the largest colony of koalas outside of Australia.
Camels can travel as fast as horses but can also endure long periods of time without food or water. Camels are used by humans for wool, milk, meat, leather and even dung can be used for fuel.
In this exhibit, there is a small herd of Bactrian camels. They are two-humped camels that grow a thick coat of hair during the winter and then shed it in the summer.

Zoo experience
This field trip was really helpful to our class because in the classroom we only get to have hands on experience with preserved animal specimens. While we have access to videos of these animals, it is really engaging to be able to visit these animals in person and observe a variety of animals and learn about their habitat, behavior, habits etc.
Having this field trip at the end of the semester is fun because we get to see the animals after learning about their internal systems and their contribution to the world. When we go to the zoo we see first hand the animals we have been studying and we already know a lot about them and we get to tie our classroom experiences to the outer world.
