The Spectacled Owl ranges from 43 to 52 cm in length. Their wingspan is 2.5 to 3 feet. They exhibit sexual dimorphism through size, with the females generally being larger than the males. Males will weigh 1 to 1.5 lbs and females weigh from 1.5 to 2.2 lbs. These owls have bilateral symmetry and their body is covered in feathers including their legs and feet. Their coloring includes a brown head and upperbreast with white facial markings and whitish to yellow-ochre underparts. These owls have no ear tufts, their eyes are yellow and the beak is pale. The nostrils are located on there upper beak. The juvenile owl is even more distinctive than the adult because it is completely white apart from a chocolate brown facial disc.
